Taking the Don't Put Up With It pledge

Retailers across Scotland are taking the Don’t Put Up With It pledge, promising to report every crime in their stores to police. By doing so, they are taking a stand against those responsible for the thefts, abuse and assaults which are sadly seen in shops across the country every day. In agreeing to the pledge, they are saying: “We will support and encourage our retailers and staff to report every incidence of retail crime.”

Why this is so important

You can show your support for the Don’t Put Up With It pledge, by posting it on social media with the hashtag #dontputupwithit. You can download campaign material here. To request more details, email reception@sgfscot.co.uk.

The strong reaction from retailers in promising to report all retail crimes comes as greater protection against shop workers who suffer abuse and assaults across Scotland comes into law.

For the Protection of Workers Act to have real impact, however, it requires people to report all incidents so that police can be aware of issues and so those responsible for trouble realise that their actions will not be tolerated and that they will be brought to justice.
